So I have only one more day here in London which is really quite sad. We are leaving for Bath on Tuesday and it'll be bittersweet to be on the road again. It'll be fun to be in a new place but I hate to leave London because it is so great here! There has been so much to do and see, it's kind of unbelievable. So far I've been to a few shows. I got to see Cabaret which was fun and Wicked which was excellent. I was going to see Mousetrap, a detective/mystery but I completely ran out of time. I also have been able to go to a bunch of museums because entrance to them is all free! The best way to do a museum is to stick headphones in and wander around the exhibits. That way you don't have annoying teenagers on school field trips and little children running around bothering you. It's amazing the wealth of things that they have here plus the history of the city in general. I got to go to church service at Westminster Abbey today and it was amazing to be inside the abbey. I can't believe how many famous dead people are buried there. You know you've made it when you've been buried in Westminster Abbey.
It's also been really cool to go to all of the parks around here. Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is so close to our apartments that we go there fairly frequently. I went up to Regents Park yesterday which is where the London Zoo is. It is beautiful up there! So many flowers and lakes and birds... we even saw these two black swans hanging out in the inner circle of Regent Park. It was wonderful to just sit outside and eat lunch and have ice cream and walk around.
Let's see... other things I've been to since I've been here... I went on the London Eye which was fantastic. Kait and I had to wait in line for like and hour and a half but it was worth it. I've been to the Globe which was fun, the Round House theater where the Royal Shakespeare Company is doing an entire series of the History plays (oh to live in London), I went to Abbey Road today.. which, really, not that exciting. It really is just a Zebra crosswalk but I took a picture of it anyway. I saw the changing of the guards (well, sorta saw it. It's pretty hard to see with hundreds of people crowding the gates!) at Buckingham Palace and went on a tour of the Tower of London. The Tower of London is actually really quite disturbing. You want commodified violence, that's the place for you. I also got to see the Crown Jewels which were... amazing but... man, I can understand why there are rebellions.
So when I look at it, it doesn't feel like I've done that much but I have been able to just get to know people on my trip better which has been one of the best parts of my trip. It's nice getting to form friendships with people that I probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to get to know. Okay. Didn't mean to get sappy on everyone.
It is strange that we aren't done with our trip yet. Leaving London feels like it means we should be heading home but I still have a few more weeks left! We'll be traveling to Bath on Tuesday and then to Stratford, Cambridge and finals in Oxford! I hope that everyone is doing well. I will see you all in a few weeks!
